UPLB names 15 new ‘ambassadors’

Fifteen more have been added to UPLB’s growing ‘envoys’ worldwide.

These graduating international students have been recently commissioned by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) to be UPLB ambassadors during a program on June 20 at the Makiling Hall, Student Union Building.

The UPLB Ambassadorship Program, according to Atty. Eleno O. Peralta, officer-in-charge of OSA, designates selected international graduates to represent UPLB in their respective countries and to promote the University among their compatriots as an ideal institution for higher studies.

In an inspirational message delivered on behalf of Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., Dr. Myrna G. Carandang, university registrar, recognized the role of the ambassadors as vital partners in connecting UPLB with like-minded institutions that aim for community advancement and inclusive growth in Southeast Asia and the world.

During the event, OSA recognized from among its new ambassadors the recipients of special awards.

Hun Ni Su of Myanmar received the Academic Excellence Award for having the highest general weighted average among graduating international students.

Savuth Sem and Sokom Kong from Cambodia; Phoutthasone Khouangvichit and Bounxou Xayxana from Lao PDR; and Hun Ni Su, Phyo La Pyae Won, and Sandar Moe from Myanmar were given the Service and Leadership Awards for upholding the welfare of other international students as leaders of the International Students Association in UPLB.

Joining them as newly commissioned ambassadors were Mai Hatenaka of Japan; Sokun Khoeun of Cambodia; Kongmy Nongboudtalath of Lao PDR; May Soe Oo, Zin Mar Swe, and Thu Zar of Mynamar; Ana Maria Da Costa Goncalves Noronha and Mateus De Jesus Gomes of Timor Leste; and Hoang Hai Ly of Vietnam.
