UPLB had just laid down the foundations for undertaking collaborative activities with Jakarta-based Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Regional Centre for Food Nutrition (SEAMEO RECFON).

The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 4 at the Office of the Chancellor, opening opportunities in faculty and student exchange programs, research and lecture collaborations, exchange of academic information and materials, and other academic programs.

The event was initiated by the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food of the College of Human Ecology (CHE-IHNF).

The MoU was signed by Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. and Dr. Muchtarudin Mansyur, director of SEAMEO RECFON and witnessed by Dr. Raden G. Piadozo, dean of CHE and Dr. Lili Nurlailli, Education and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Manila.

Present during the signing were Dr. Sue Liza C. Saguiguit, assistant to the chancellor, director of the Office of Alumni Relations, and a faculty member at CHE; Dr. Simplicio M. Medina, director of the Office for International Linkages; and Dr. Leila S. Africa and Dr. Normahitta P. Gordoncillo, present and past directors, respectively, of IHNF.

SEAMEO RECFON is one of the 24 SEAMEO Centers in Southeast Asia and is hosted by the Ministry Education and Culture at the Republic of Indonesia. It aims to address food and nutrition problems in Southeast Asia by developing human resources in the region through education, capacity building, research and information dissemination and collaborations with other institutions.
